Show B. A. C. Wins Conference Basketball Championship Coach Lee Listons Branch Ag-( ricultural College Basketball team won the Intermountaln Junior College conference championship at the tournament in Cedar City last week end, the first time the! conference flag has been brought to the local school since 1932. Lis- J ton's charges went through the three-day meet without a defeat, winning over the St. George Fire- men Thursday night, by a score of 48 to 36, then tripping Weber ( College, the pre-tourney favorites, ( by a score of 50 to 47. and tipping the Dixie college Flyers In the' championship game, 39 to 33. The Flyers reached the Championship Cham-pionship game by winning from the B. A. C. Reserves 50 to 39, after) the Reserves had crowded them throughout the first three quarters ' and by pulling out a 54 to 45 vie-; tory over Snow College with a last half rally. The Snow College team finished In third place by coming back af-, ter the loss to Dixie, to trim the Weber Wildcats. 65 to 55, Satur-' day night. Weber finished in fourth place without winning a game, the Cedar City Eagles, the sensation of the tournament, trimming the Wildcats by a 47 to 41 score on the ' opening night. Carbon College,' fifth place winners, lost to Snow,, 76 to 53, on the opening night, and i went down before the Eages, 34 to 28, on the second night. ( The game between the Eagles and Weber proved to be the big game of the opening night. After Weber had taken a lead In the early minutes of play, the Eagles closed the gap to 9 to 7 at the end of the quarter, then took a 22-21 lead at half time, Increased It to 35-29 in the third period, and! maintained the lead for a 47-41 victory. The B. A." C-Weber game Friday night was a close fought thriller throughout, with the lead changing hands with almost every basket. Weber held slight advantages at the end of the first and second quarters, 8 to 7 and 25 to 21, but at the end of the third period th3 score was tied at 39 to 39 and the' B. A. C. got 11 points In the final quarter to win by a 50 to 47 mar-, j gin. Max Jensen led the scoring with 21 points, made on 7 goals and . 7 or 9 foul tries, while Leonard ( Mickelson was high point man for, B. A. C. with 4 goals and 6 of 9 foul tries for 14 points. The B. A.' C. scored 19 field goals to 15 by Weber, but the Wildcats converted , 17 of 26 foul tries and the B. A. C. got 12 out of 21 tries. Elmer Cox and Kay Hafen led Dixie to Its victory over Snow Friday Fri-day night with Evan and Roger. Nellson and Bailey leading the scoring scor-ing for Snow, although Evan play-1 ed less than half the game. Dixie lead at the end of each quarter, 12-9, 26-24. 40-36, and won 54 to 45. but the Badgers were very much In the ball game throughout. I In the Snow-Weber game Satur-J day night, the Snow team held a slight margin throughout, 14 to 10 at the first quarter, 30 to 27 at the half and 48 to 42 at the end of the third period and won the game by a margin of 65 to 55. Jensen had 16 points, Adamson 15 and Fox 10 for Weber, while E. Nellson got 21, R-Nellson R-Nellson 15. and Rosenberg 14 to lead , the scoring for Snow. Weber got 20 goals and 15 out of 25 foul tries.' while Snow had 26 field goals and, 13 out of 19 foul tries. In the Championship game the Dixie Flyers got off to a 7 to 1 lead before the B. A. C. tenm found the range but from then on It was extremely ex-tremely close until the Farmers pulled away In the middle of the final quarter. ' Dixie got the first four points on foul shots, two by Hafen and two by Pitchforth, before Phillips Rot one for B. A. C after Robbins. Rosenberg, Cook and Cameron had .each missed a try. Cox then added the first goal of the game anJ Church got a foul to give Dixie a T to 1 lead. EnRlestcad scored from the floor to make the score 7 to 3. i . but Hafen added another foul. C. went Into the lead at 9 to 8 on a goal by Mathews, and In-! creased this to 12-8 on a foul by' Mathews and a field goal by Engle- stead. MacDonald had missed two' foul tries In the meantime for Dlx-le, Dlx-le, but closed the gap to 12-10 with I two shots moment later. Phillip got one of two tries but Hafen matched It with a foul shot. The B. A. C. missed a chance to go ahead when Mathews and Mile3 each missed two foul tries, and Dixie shot ahead, 19 to 14, on a goal by Cox and a foul and field goal by Hafen. Cameron made It 19 to 15 with one shot in two tries as the half ended. At the opening of the second half Walker got a field goal, but missed a foul .shot, but Phillips got one of two tiles and the Farmers were only one point behind 19 to 18, then Walker put B. A. C. on lead 20-19 with another field goal. Holt tied it up with a foul shot, and Cox put Dl;le ahead, 22-20 with another field goal. The lend was short lived, Cameron getting a goal and Walker adding two out of three foul shots, for a 24-22 lead. During this spurt MacDonald missed two foul tries, while Neilson and Hafen eaoh missed one, and Phil-Hps Phil-Hps missed one for B. A. C. At the opening of the final quarter Robblns put B. A. C. In the lead with a field goal, but MacDonald Mac-Donald matched It a moment later. The Farmers got the lead back again 28-27 on two foul shots by Miles, but Hafen got a field goal after missing a foul try and Dixie os leading 29-28. Phillips missed a foul shot and Hafen got away for another goal and Dixie lead 31 to 28. Mathews missed a foul but Phillips tipped a shot In to make the score 31-30. Cox made a foul shot, but Mathews Math-ews tied the score 32-33 with a field goal, and a foul by Walker put the Farmers on lead again Mathews and Robblns tallied from the field and Phillips made a foul shot to shoot B. A C. Into a 38 to 32 lead. Robblns and Nellson ench missed free tries, and then Cox added one, but Phillips matched this and the game ended with the Championship won by B. A.
