Show Softball, Volleyball Plans Announced Softball activities of the city recreation rec-reation program this summer will be concentrated into one niht a week, according to Lee Liston, recreation rec-reation supervisor. All legue soft-ball soft-ball games will be played at the' high school football field on Tuesday Tues-day evenings, with the lights used in order that all games scheduled may be played. Practice games or regular practice may be held on the field any evening. Practice games will be held Tuesday Tues-day evening of the next week, with the regular legue games scheduled to open on Tuesday, June 19th. Four teams have been entered in the senior league, and others will probably be organized before the league schedule opens. Hie four teams already entered includj the Lions Club with Ren Taylor as malinger; mali-nger; Juiiior Chamber of Commerce, Com-merce, with Ray Nickclls and Carrol Car-rol Brown, managers; Thorley Motor Mo-tor Company, with Barney Gorman and Sid Thompson managers; and the Outcasts, a tfroup of young players who were entered as the Dix Tire Shop Team last year. A Junior league for boys under teen years of age is also being organized, or-ganized, with four teams to enter. The' teams will be organized on a 16 years of age Is also being or-comblning or-comblning for one team. HerschM Neeley will sponsor the Fourth Ward Team, with Keith Crlpps acting n.s manager, Morris Roberts will be In charge of the Second Ward team, Frank Milne the Third Ward team and Morgan Rollo the First-Fifth Ward Team. A girls bague Is to be organized if the girls of the town are interested inter-ested in such a league. However, the teams have not yet been organized organ-ized and it is not known how many teams may be expected. Volleyball and horseshoe contests will be featured eacl. Friday evening, even-ing, with the games to be laid out at the City Park. The courts 'will be available for use at any time, but regular league games will be played on Friday evenings. The vol-leyballs vol-leyballs and horseshoes will be at the swimming pool office and may be used at any time by making a request to the attendant at the pool. Teams, particularly in volley ball are now being organized. A schedule for Tennis activities will be announced soon. The swimming pool Is now open each afternoon and evening, opening open-ing at 2 p.m. and closing at 10 p.m. |
