Show Child Struck by Car While Crossing Main Street; Hold Driver on Two Charges I An automobile pedestraln accident acci-dent on Main street Friday even'ns seriously injured six-year-old Patricia Pat-ricia Stephenson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Stephenson, unJ 1 resulted In the arrest of the dr.ver , of the automobile on two sept-rate charges. J The child was hit as she was leaving the motion picture theatre J and crossing the street to Join her father, who was waiting in his car to take her home. She was accompanied accom-panied by her brother, 10, and a:ter waiting for two cars traveling south to pass, she started across the street and was struck by a northbond car driven by Merl Prlsbrey of Washington, Wash-ington, Washington County, who was home on furlough from the Marine Corps. Prlsbrey parked his car a short distance down the street, and according ac-cording to police officers, failed to return to the scene of the accident. ac-cident. The crash occured at about t:30 p. m., and Prlsbrey was picked up by city pollce officers when he returned to his car at about 3 o'clock a. m. Two complaints were filer! against him Monday, one for driving an automobile while under the influence of Intoxicating liquor, nd the other for falling to repoit after an accident. He entered a plea of not guilty to the first charge, and asked for further time In which to make his plea on the second. He will be arraigned before the City Justice at 2 p. n. Saturday, December De-cember 29th. for hearing on the drunken driving charge, and will probably make his plea on the second sec-ond charge at that time. Mr. Stephenson, head of the Commercial Department of the B'tnch Agricultural College, had driven to Main street to pick up the k two children who were attending a show, and was sitting in the car waiting for them when the girl was knocked down only a few steps from where he was waiting. She was rushed to the Iron County Coun-ty hospital where it was found she had suffered fractures of the leg, skull and shoulder blade, and lacerations lacer-ations about the head and face. She Is making a rapid recovery, according ac-cording to the report of the doctors, doc-tors, and apparently will suffer no 111 effects from her injuries. |
