Show Win. State 4-H Championships IN recognition of their outstanding 411 records in 1946 Dairy Foods Demonstrations, Frozen Foods, Home Grounds Iltautlflcatlon and Meat Animal activities, six Utah club members will receive state awards. The winners and brief outlines of their records follow: Crol Poulion Elin Dt St. Jor Wndll Olitn Carol Gurr Carol Poulson, 15, of Ephralm, Is Utah's top ranking participant in the 1946 National 4-H Frozen I Foods Activity. She receives the state award of a $50.00 U. S. Sav-, Sav-, ings Bond provided by Interna- tlonal Harvester Co. Carol's record rec-ord shows that she prepared and packaged 123 quarts of meats, vegetables and fruits for placement place-ment lu freezer locker to lend variety to the family diet. Most of the food she prepared for freezing freez-ing waB home-grown. Carol won many placings on her foods exhibits. ex-hibits. Elaine De St. Jeor, 1G, of Provo, wins state houors In the 19 Id National 4 11 Home Grounds Beau-tldcatlon Beau-tldcatlon Activity. Her reward Is a 17-Jewel gold watch provided by Mrs. Charles R. Walgreen, Chicago, Among her home-land-scaping achievements during Ave years ot club work are planting a tulip bed on each side of the front porch, making a border of Iris along a side walk, and planting plant-ing vines to climb over the back of the house. During her spare time she removed weeds from around the shrubs and each week removes the rubbish. Klalne has helped tear down old outbuildings which spoiled the beauty of her home. Wendell Olsen, 16, of Logan, receives a 17-Jewel gold watch provided by Thomas K. WIlHon, Chicago, for having the highest rating state record in the 1946 National 4-H Meat Animal award program. His six-year record In 4-11 work shows that he handled 16 baby beeves. He won many placlngs on his meat animal exhibits, ex-hibits, Including f 45.00 la cash Carol Cell and Maiin Bowler prizes, which brought his estimated esti-mated lncomo from all 4 II projects proj-ects to $1.4:18.94. Ho showed the reserve champion baby beef at the North Salt Lake Stock Show last June. Wendell has Increased the size of his project each year. Ho fed out 5 calves during the past year. Wendell served as president of his local club this year and was active In numerous 4-H activities. Utah's winners in the 1946 Dairy Foods Demonstrations are (individual) Carol Gurr, 14. ot Kichlleld, and (team) Carol Call, 14, and Maxlne Howler, 15, both of St. George. Kach receives a 150.00 U. S. Savings Itond provided pro-vided by the Kraft Foods Co. Carol demonstrated "Home Pasteurization Pas-teurization of Milk", and the team's demonstration was titled "Cheese Conies to the Party". Their demonstrations were given before audiences totaling 682 people. The purpose of the demonstrations dem-onstrations was to gain experience experi-ence in public speaking, and develop teamwork and sportsman-' ship In showing others what has been learned regarding good methods of preparing dairy food products for all occasions. All of these activities were conducted under the direction ot the Extension Service ot the State Agricultural College and USDA cooperating. |
