Show HIGH WATER RIGHTS; GETTING TOGETHER' . Movement Started to Incorporate the' High Water Rights of Coal Creek And Get on Better Basis. j The farmers and high water owners of Cedar City and Enoch held a meeting meet-ing in the Library auditorium Wednesday Wed-nesday night for the purpose of trying try-ing to effect some kind of an organization organ-ization to better control and distribute distrib-ute the flood waters of Coal Creek, also to look into the matter of a system sys-tem of roads for the new fields. It has been recognized for some years past that much water has been wasted by a miscellaneous number of crooked small ditches running V1 n" directions from the main creek, also that a great deal of water has been wasted and much ill feeling engendered engen-dered by the lack of system in distributing dis-tributing the water to the several owners. The man at the "tail end of the ditch" has always had a hard time to get any water when the stream was low. The idea of pooling the high water interests and making one class of them with an incorporation to handle same was discussed at some' length and seemed to meet with hearty approval, ap-proval, so a committee consisting of Robert S. Gardner, S. J. Foster, M. H. Dalley and Geo. W. Esplin was elected to draft articles of incorporation incorpora-tion and submit them to the field owners own-ers for their ratification at an early date. A committete consisting of Robert S. Gardner, Don C. Urle and David A. Thorley was uppointetd to bring in a report on diversion dams and main canals for the handling of the water. In regard to roads, it is a known fact that the highways throughout our valley arc rapidly being fenced up so that it is almost impossible to reach the outlying lands. The held owners felt that a system of roads should be installed before any more of the land is fenced'-up and brought under cultivation, so a committee consisting con-sisting of George W. Esplin, C. M. Corry and Edgar Jones was appointed to look after the matter and .submit a report at an early date. We feel that the work started is a step in the right direction towards a more beneficial and economical use of the waters of Coal Creek, which will mean much for the development of the agricultural resources of our val-ley. |
