Show GERMANY ACTS NASTY Conditions in ""Europe respecting Germany's attitude is anything but reassuring and seems to justify the Allies in holding all the soldiers now in France and Belgium there until after af-ter pence is signed. Recent advices state that the German representatives have broken off negotiations for the perpetuation of the armistice and have returned home. It is further learned that there is a strong plot on the purt of the official class for the restoration of the monarchy, and it is not even impossible that Kaiser Wil-helm Wil-helm may be reinstated. It appears to us that Germany is playing false again; that their object may have been to get an opportunity to withdraw without loss to their big defense system on the Rhine, obtain the demobilization of a large portion of the allied forces, and prepare to 9 r strike a powerful blow when least ex pected and when their opponents re ) L unprepared to combat it. The old Germany army, for the most part is held in tact, and it is claimed that at the present time they number about three to two compared with the armies of the allies. Gen-, Foch has been suspicious of trouble for some time and has remonstrated against the withdrawal of so many allied soldiers before the signing of! peace. It would certainly be a serious reproach upon the statesmanship of the allied nations if they should be taught napping. Of course, a large quantity of munitions mu-nitions and materials have been taken from the Germans, but it is really not known how far this has crippled them. . tok Besides, by a vigorous and unexpected V j assault they might recapture a lot of these supplies, and prolong the war indefinitely. |
