'"" to decide upon candidates for the various appointive offices in ' "-. Utah and to recommend their choice to the state chairman and ' national committeeman. R. Thurman, state I chairman, presided at the jl gathering, and J. E. Clark, W. s secretary of the committee, per formed the duties of that office. There were several spirited contests among the candidates for. some of the more important offices, but the majority rule, which had been "agreed upon was adhered to and respected, and the defeated aspirants accepted ac-cepted their fate with commendable commend-able heroism. There also was a neat little contest over the office of collector of internal revenue. The leader lead-er ing candidates were Douglas A. Swan of this city, Heber Jex of ;, Provo and A. G. Barber of Lo- gan. The country members ex-I;. ex-I;. pressed the opinion that the f office should go to some one out-f- side of Salt Lake county and the V contest waxed exceeding warm. i However, Swan's friends were 1 in the majority and he won out. KWhen the Salt Lake postoffice was reached, it was decided to ij let the matter 'go over, with jj other postoffice appointments, &' . and a number of additional ap- jjl pointments, mentioned at the m& beginning of this article.
