Show PARK CITY. Sudden Death of D. A. Gillis a Terrible Terri-ble Shock to the Community. . (Special -Correspondence. It is with sincere regret, that we record re-cord the death of Foreman. D.- A. Gillis of the Silver King mine. The. sudden passing away of . thfs:;goOd. man was a terrible shock, to his-.wife, and family as well as to his numerous -friends. Monday. afternoon Mr. Gillis did not reach home at the usual hour, and Mrs. Gillis thought ; perhaps he was unavoidably, una-voidably, detained at the mine, but when . 7 o'clock came and there was no sign of him, she became alarmed and sent her little son John up to the mine to find1 out if anything had gone wrong. On the way up the boy met Mr. Daly coming to town and told him that his father' did not get home., Mr. Daly, went back-to the mine and' sent a searching party to look through the mine for the missing man. ' They, found him in a shute on the 800 level unconscious. uncon-scious. He was taken immediately to the company boarding house, and as soon as possible two doctors were in attendance, but all their efforts to save the lifeof the injured man proved futile. fu-tile. Death claimed him at 6:45 o'clock Tuesday morning. Mrs. Gillis was notified as soon as her husband :wfas found. The heartbroken heart-broken wife hastened to his side, but he did not recognize her. Father Galligan, Galli-gan, who had just gone to Salt Lake that afternoon, was telephoned for, and he, too, came with all speed through the canyon. Mr. Gillis had the hanni- ness of receiving Extreme Unction before be-fore his death. He died just about the time Father Galligan fin' shed mass for him.'- r ' - . 'The funeral services wre held on Thursday at 7 a. m. at 'the' Catholic' church, where requiem mass was celebrated cele-brated by Rev. Father Galligan, who also preached a short funeral sermon before giving', the last benediction. Deceased was a member of the A. O. U. W,-andB: P. O. E. lodges, and both orders attended the funeral. After the services the remains were taken to the D. & R." G. station, where a special train was awaiting to convey them to Salt Lake for interment. A large number of friends accompanied the remains to the city. Mr. Gillis was about 37 years of. age. He leaves a wife and six children to mourn the loss of a devoted husband and loving father.. May his soul rest in peace. |
