A Philadelphian who spent many years 'j the sunny south, who, in fact, was born and brought up there, tells an amusing amus-ing story of darkey wit, and one well worth repeating. One day he returned from - many hours of driving, and was agreeably surprised, to see a fine plump turkey served up for dinner. Wondering where it came from, he called Rastus and inquired by what means the beautiful bird had reached his dining table. "Why,. sah.Vr replied Rastus, "dat turkey, tur-key, dope bin roostin on. our fence dis free nights, so dis morning I seize him for de rent ob de fence." |
