Show A GOOD EXAMPLE. We pointed out last week to our readers some opportunities for rich Catholics to spend a slight portion of their means for the betterment of necessary and deserving institutions. We likewise pointed out that our Catholic Cath-olic wealthy were slower to take advantage ad-vantage of such opportunities than their non-Catholic brethren of means. That we were right in our contention we think there is no doubt whatsoever. whatso-ever. In fact, a list of donations given to non-Catholic institutions here in the year 1S99 makes strikingly manifest the truth of our last week's article. The following ist shows the amounts donated to non-Catholic colleges, universities, uni-versities, academies, etc., in sums of $20,000 and upwards. We publish it as an object lesson to our wealthy Catholics: Cath-olics: ' Leland Stanford University $2S,000,000 University of California lO.uuO.tXK) Harvard college 2,30i,(X:0 Pennsylvania State University .. 1,0.".(m) Ya'fc college , SS9.0CO ; Armour institute 75i.x)0 , University of Washington 575,0CO Brad'iev Polytechnic Institute SiXI.CKX) j Massachusetts Institute of Tech- i nolr.v 450,000 Princeton college 3!H),ono University of Chicago 3S!),370 I Brown University 362,10 j Columbia College 3u:s,2o0 Dartmouth College 3t)5,Lwt) I Alma College 225,000 !
