That pitying deed of thine was born of 'TwaT thou didst wine Christ's bloodstained, blood-stained, anguished face. Far from Him then had fled disciples weak; No pleading voice was heard for Him to speak: i No eyes to sight restored in pity gazed; No leper cleansed by Him, His power and mercy praised. Around Him there surged but an an- j pry crowd. With insults and with curses fierce and f loud, Demanding still His death their God's while Ho Toiled onward, 'neath the cross, to Calvary. Cal-vary. Through the coarse rabble, then, thou madest thy way, Nor timid fear had power thy steps to stay. Thy royal love was sweet unto thy Lord: His sacred image was thy rich reward. We envy thee, O favored, noble heart, Who in Christ's passion had such glorious glo-rious part! But we forget, at times, that ev'ry soul That miracle of love may yet control. On ev'ry human soul God stamps His image fair. Which we by sin deface, and blur by worldly core.
