Show THOSE LONG ROOMS. i Long, harrow rooms are more diffi cult to furnish artistically than are rooms of butter proportions. If furnishing fur-nishing such...rooms the endeavor must constantly be made not to interfere with the little width thev already have, but to cut off the length in effect. ef-fect. Where two long rooms open into each other, screens and portieres- may be effectively employed to give them a iorter, and, therefore, a broader ap- pearance. A sofa stood across a corner or a table so placed, especially with a sere behind it, helps to break up the length of an apartment. Another way to break up length is to form a group of objects, such as a table with books on. it and a jardiniere with a couale of chairs cicco to it, as if inviting in-viting guests, to sit there; this group should stand'" three-quarters of the length of the room from its front or rear, and a littla to one side, to break the length of the wall line. Another way to make a room look less long and nar- row is to place a large rug over the carpet floor, and a leaser rug of another an-other color effect just beyond it, placing plac-ing a table on the smaller one. |
