Show : ANACONDA. : 4 4 - ! 5 ST. PAUL'S. (Correspondence Intermountain Catholic.) Christmas eve at St. Pauls was all that the devotional and generous Catholic Cath-olic heart could desire. Father Toilet and his zealous altar society had their untiring efforts amply repaid by the large attendance on final results of the festivities. The choir rendered T. Von la Hache's chorus mass in fine style and were strongly reinforced by a juvenile choir of sixteen voices in two selected Christmas anthems. The attendance was large and the scene ' the lights in bright profusion shedding a veritable halo of glory around the lowly crib, the lavish floral display, the music and the spirit animating all present impressed a feeling that even time will not soon efface. In the evening, solemn benediction was given, with the following music by a full choir: The children's chorus- renaerea me Aaesie; u saiutans, ' by J: Baker; the "Gloria in Excelcis," by the children's choir; Rossi's "Tan-tum "Tan-tum Ergo," by Captain McGinnis, and the Doxology by the choirs combined. Father Follet was ably assisted by Rev. Paul Rulquin, S. M., of All Hallows, Hal-lows, Salt Lake City. Father Rulquin preached in French at Sunday 8 a. m. mass, for the especial es-pecial benefit of the French-Canadian contingent. On last Thursday afternoon, in the A. O. H. hall, the eighteen teachers and 250 pupils of St. Paul's Sunday school enjoyed a Christmas tree festival, festi-val, which proved to be the feature of the year among the younger circle Of St. Paul's. All children in the city, it matters not of what denomination, upon whom old "Santa" failed to call, a;e invited. The committee on entertainment was Mrs. Peter Towhey, Miss Anna Franklin Frank-lin and Miss Alice Collins. The musical music-al programme was handled by Mrs. Young and Mrs. Burnham. The whole-affair whole-affair was a decided success and the Joy brought to -many a childish heart amply repaid the weary efforts of the kind ladies in charge. Such action is the practical living of the lesson taught by the new-born Christ and will surely meet with the promised reward. ? A very happy double ambioscade was sprung on Thursday afternoon, Dec. 22, in the A. O. H. hall. The surprised parties were Rev. Father Toilet, director, direc-tor, and Mrs. J. E. Young, president of the League. For three years past Mrs. Young has been president of the league and one ot its most., zealous workers. As a token of rega4r?or such disinterested disinter-ested devotion, Fainer Toilet and the promoters, forty-three in number, had prepared a A;ery pleasant surprise for Mrs. Young', in the shape of a large and finely executed picture of the Sacred Sa-cred Heart. The gift is a "gem" and was painted by Sister Amata of the Ursuline Convent. The border is engrossed en-grossed with: an appropriate inscription. inscrip-tion. A fine easel holds the painting. As fortune would have it, during the time that Father Toilet and the. promoters pro-moters were so cunningly preparing for Mrs. Young, she on the ether hand, assisted as-sisted by the whole league in general and the promoters- in particular, was eagerly and similarly preparing a sur prise for Father Toilet by the. gift of a $75 elegant leather couch. Both presentations pre-sentations being entirely unexpected, moved the recipients deeply. 'T would be difficult to tell in which face shone the deeper, pleased surprise. . Father Toilet's emotion found egress in terms of deep gratitude, which came direct from the heart. Mrs. Young, who acted act-ed for the league in presenting the gift siid: "Reverend and Dear Father: Allow me to present to you on behalf of the members of the League of the Sacred Heart this slight token of their esteem. es-teem. For more than a. year you have labored with earnestness and enthusiasm enthusi-asm for the welfare and success of every individual as well as for the entire en-tire membership. I echo the wish of the league, I know when I hope that some time in the future, resting hereon, you will realize the success of all the dreams, both sleeping and waking, for I know that one of them at least is that every member of j-our parish wiir before be-fore the New Year ends be active members mem-bers in the League of the Sacred Heart. May heaven pour her choicest bless ings upon you and let us nope that all present ? today will have the pleasure of gathering here again -next year to cekhrate the Christmas festival.".
