Now that the last echo of the Christmas Christ-mas bells has died away upon the wintry win-try air. and the grand procession of festivals following in the train of the great day has vanished with the passing pass-ing of the royal pageant of the Magi, whose octave is just completed, a serious se-rious return to the hard path of duty becomes the thought and resolution of the hour. And although midway in the course of the school year, still it is a good starting point for fresh endeavors in every line of work. The bulletins of the recent examination are not only records of past attainments or the reverse, re-verse, but also monitors as to the immediate im-mediate future, and with this view particularly should each pupil note well her averages. Even with the best, there is yet much to gain, and if "the end crowns all." it is equally true that the beginning is the hest prophecy of the end.
