Biehop Scanlan delivered a brief sermon at the cathedral on New Year's day, one that impressed the entire en-tire congregation. Since then all the j drily papers and the press throughout the country are quoting the sermon in part. The following from the Salt Lake Tribune will be of interest to all who love and revere the bishop for the - noble practical Christianity and Vhar- ity daily exemplified in his own life: J "Mrs. J. Chrlstensen have been named as members of the ways and means committee of the Children's Aid and Home-Finding association. Letters are being sent out asking aid for the cause, the letter beginning with the quotation from a Catholic bishop: "Don't wear out your tongue saying, 'Happy New Year;' talk is cheap. Better wear out j your shoes running to make some one happy." The letters are signed by I John C. McClain, president; Mn. E. E. j Shepard, secretary: Henry W. Father Deneaf, the spiritual director, presided, and the election resulted in o George Curley for president; Joseph McKay, vice president; Donald Morrison, Morri-son, secretary, and Walter McCann, treasurer. Ore of the principal bylaws by-laws is. that any member refusing to attend meeting or to serve on the altar, will be fined and finally expelled from the society. Miss Lena Fafrlc was the little solist at the 9 o'clock Mas last Sunday. The names of all who contributed to the Christmas collection will be read next Sunday. Thoso who have not yet contributed should attend to the matter promptly. Miss Harris will sing an "Ava Maria" by Millard at the cathedra,! on Sunday v ith violin obligate by Edward Filz-patrick. |
