Show ALL HALLOWS COLLEGE. Bev. "William J. Gibbons Appointed Vice President, j Rev. William J. Gibbons received of-j of-j ficial appointment this week. He is the new vice president of All Ha.llows. Rev. William J. Gibbons, who has been for many years identified with Jefferson college, came west for the first time last fall. The new vice-president, who is a man of some forty summers, sum-mers, was born in Mobile, Ala. He made his early studies in his native city and at Jefferson college. When he decided to enter the Marist order he was sent to Devonshire. England, where he entered en-tered the novitiate of the order, and after having successfully completed the year's probation, was received into the society. He was then sent to Spain, where in due time he was elevated to the sacred priesthood. Soon afterward he set sail for the land of his forefathers, forefath-ers, the Emerald Isle, but was not long there until he was recalled to this country. Father Gibbons was successively professor pro-fessor in Jefferson college, assistant pastor in St. Mary's church, Algiers, La-, and in '97 Was transferred to Atlanta. At-lanta. Ga.. where, with Father Gulnan as assistant, he founded the parisii and built the beautiful church of the Sacred Hf-art, of which he was the first pastor. He withdrew from the scene of his labors in Georgia to fill the office of procurator in Jefferson college, which position he held when he was transferred to Salt Lake. All Hallows is to be congratulated in having as vice president a man of such wide and varied experience. |
