He left home last March and has visited Australia, the Holy nd, the principal princi-pal place of interest Italy. France, England and Ireland. He said mass at Bethlehem and Mount Calvary, and i had an audience with the Pope. U I spent six months in Ireland and found the country much changed after an absence of twenty-one years. The people are in more prosperous condition condi-tion and are developing the American traits of independence and self reliance. They are hopeful for home rule and the indications are that the present government gov-ernment wil grant some measure of re form. Father Marnane spoke enthusiastically enthusiastic-ally of the many reforms that have been adopted in his progressive country and said the people were prosperous and contented. The new Premier, Sir Joseph Ward, "is a gre::t financier. Speaking of this country Father Marnane Mar-nane sair he was impressed by the great, business activity manifested on' all sides and by the apparent unlimited resources of the United States. If he were to make any adverse criticism it would be that the people seem too materialistic. ma-terialistic. Father Marnane, who is a very interesting man and a pleasant gentleman, will leave in a few days for the coast. |
