The miners ere better fixed in the matter of luel than are th.) people of Ely, since they have an abundant s ip-ply ip-ply of wood nearby. In town wood las been selling all the way from $10 to $20 the cord, which is the highest pi ice ever reached in this part of White Pine county. The advance in price in t tiis well-wooded district is due to the increased in-creased population and the scarcity of coal. In speaking of Ely's population, it Is interesting to note that in less than a jiar the number of residents in the town has increased fourfold. At this time last year there were 900 people in Ely; now. despite the rigors of winter, the- population must be pretty close to 4.000.
