Show Fourth of July Is Royally Observed Hundreds joined in one acclaim that Gunnison's Independence day celebration last Thursday was one of the best, most pleasing and entertaining enter-taining ever seen or witnessed in the city. From the booming of the sunrise sun-rise salute until the finals in the dancing party, the concluding number, num-ber, there was something do'ng every minute, and the good feature was the fact that there were no accidents to mar the pleasure of a single celebrant. The festivities were sponsored by the Gunnison Lions club, and the members, all of them, left nothing undone to make the celebration complete. com-plete. The various committees assigned assign-ed from the Lions club were "up and doing" and their achievements were loudly applauded. The day's festivities started at 9:30, with a pleasing program of sports for the children at the City park. The contests, many and varied, were keenly contested and afforded amusement for the big crowd that had gathered. The band maneuvers, staged on Main street by members of the Gunnison Gun-nison City band, were unique and something new here. Marching, drilling drill-ing in formation, and doing varied i stunts, kept the throngs amused. The patr:'otic program at the Casino Ca-sino theatre was cleverly carried out at 11 o'clock until shortly after noon. The afternoon was filled with interesting in-teresting .features. A matinee at the show house, the Softball game, free dance for the children, band concert during the evening, and a wonderful pyrotechnical display, followed by dancing, proved all that could be expected ex-pected and then some. The Gunnison Lions club is to be congratulated for the splendid time, the various stunts, and everything that rounded out the grand celebration. |
