Show Crews Start Work On $4,000 Project Work of starting and completing a $4,000 project for the Gunnison Valley Val-ley high school was started Tuesday of this week, according to Leo D. Bardsley, principal of the high school, and who will direct the work. Payton Alexander is to act as assistant as-sistant to Mr. Bardsley in the work. The work will comprise the building build-ing of curbings, one that will circle the 440-yard track, and another that will enclose a straightaway for 120 yards, and to be used for dash racing. The interior circle will be sufficiently sufficient-ly large to accomodate a baseball diamond, and in fact adequate to accomodate ac-comodate field events of all kinds. When the job has been completed, the Gunnison Valley high school can boast justly of one of the best field tracks in the state. The project, which was sought some time ago, has been approved and Saturday evening Mr. Bardsley received notice to start work at once. Fourteen men and seven teams will be employed on the work, and crews were started Tuesday morning making mak-ing arrangements for taking out rock at vantage points in the foothills north of town. The walls surrounding the track will he of native stone, all of whJch is easily accessible to the point of work on building the curbings. curb-ings. Under the plans the funds will be supplied by the government, and it is stipulated that school members and others will furnish the material. The work will be rushed as fast as possible, according to Mr. Bardsley, and every effort will be made to have the job completed by the first of September, or before the fall school term starts. |
