Show Epidemic of "flu" Sweeping Valley Gunnison city, as well as the valley, val-ley, is passing through the throes of an epidemic of "flu" and very few homes thus far have escaped the malady mal-ady in some form or another. The disease made its appearance early last week and is apparently sweeping the whole valley. All schools have been materially effected insofar as attendance is concerned, and in some cases grade attendance has been reduced re-duced to nearly forty per cent. Thus far, no cases of seriousness have been reported, the malady being be-ing in the slightest form. The patient, pa-tient, however", while passing through the fever stage, is quite sick, but with proper care and treatment, the sickness sick-ness soon passes and generally those stricken, are able to be up and about after about four days rest and proper prop-er care. j The epidemic is prevalent throughout through-out the nation and Utah is not any exception. Salt Lake, and in fact, every town and hemlet is . passing through the ordeal and schools in general are sorely effected. Neither does the disease show any ' favoritism, favorit-ism, as all ar subjected to the attacks and in only a few instances, does humanity hu-manity escape. Health officers of the "' city and county are acting promptly in checking check-ing the disease, and are giving advice to those who. are stricken. With the first symptoms patients are advised to go to bed and take a complete rest to avoid exposure. Many are inclined to think that the malady can be "worked off"' by following their daily vocations but only in a very few instances has this accomplished the desired, results. Open bowel movement, warmth, rest and proper food are recommended by physicians as the quickest and safest way to rid the system of the germs. |
