Show Jubilee Singers Here December 6 The second lyceum number to be given in the valley, under the direction direc-tion of the stake recreational committee, com-mittee, will be held at the high school building Thursday, December 6. At this time the Shaver Jubilee singers will make their appearance. . This noted concert organization has-been has-been delighting audiences throughout through-out the east and middle-west for the past ten years. Some three years ago they sang before station WLS, Chicago, Chi-cago, and the response from radio fans was so enthusiastic that they were engaged for a semi-monthly hour on the first and third Fridays of each month. This feature has proven so popular that it has been continued now for nearly two years and there is no sign of any let-up in the enthusiasm. The program which will be given here by Mr. Shaver and his associates, asso-ciates, consisting of: James A. Shaver, Shav-er, tenor and reader; Lu Julia Rhea, contralto; Jamesanna Weathers, soprano; so-prano; LeRoy W. Jennings, basso and Vivian Gowler Gentry, pianist, will feature the old plantation melodies and the negro spirituals. Mr. Shaver Shav-er has long been a student of negro music and has done much to develop and popularize the old folk songs of the negro before American audiences. Interesting press and personal ex-cerps ex-cerps reflect in a small way the enthusiastic en-thusiastic reception which has been accorded the Shaver Jubilee company during it personal appearances before the American public. |
