Show " Blackburn's Trial Starts at Salt Lake Trial of Claude Blackburn, the 25-yorr-old Loa man, charged with the killing of Miss Flora Nelson of this city, at Bingham, May 30 of this year, was started at Salt Lake Monday after many delays. It required several sev-eral davs to select the jury and evi- dence is now being introduced. Sam A. King is attorney for Blackburn, while A. A. Duncan, assistant d'strict attorney, is fighting the case for the state. Mrs. A. B. Nelson, mother, pf )s slain girl, was among the witnesses wit-nesses appearing Monday morning. Mrs. Nelson told of the love affair between her daughter and Blackburn, stating that Blackburn had visited i the Nelson home in Gunnison and had asked to marry the daughter, and that both she and her husband had refused to consent. Blackburn, as will be remembered, ; was arrested and accused of slash-' jng the throat of Miss Nelson in a garage at Bingham. Tho supposition It that Blackburn, a su-tor for the hand of Miss Nelson, became enraged enrag-ed at his sweetheart going automobile automo-bile riding. It was while in the garage gar-age that Blackburn is supposed to have cut the throat of Miss Nelson, after which he attempted his own life. Both witnesses knew of no razor in the car or that Black- burn had a razor in his hand. Maher ' stated that he saw Blackburn raise his hand to his own throat, but was not positive that he held a razor.
