Show Rural Mail Delivery Is Now Possibility I i i Monday evening, a petition signed by nearly 200 residents of Westview, Clarion, and other portions on the wTest side of the Sevier river, was closed and Tuesday the document was forwarded to the postoffice department depart-ment at Washington, D. C. The petition, peti-tion, which had been in circulation for some time past, asks that a free rural mail delivery be established on the westside, and the petitioners are putting forth some strong arguments that should bring successful results. If the petition is favorably acted upon up-on by the postal officials, a daily delivery, de-livery, with the exceptions of Sundays Sun-days and holidays, will be had for all the residents. The .petition recites that the distance dis-tance is too far from the main post-office post-office at Gunnison, where residents of the section receive mail, and that a great inconvenience results when each individual is forced to travel the six to eight miles to get their mail. It was also impressed that there i3 neither telephones nor electric lights and that the citizens are practically "out of the world" for the lack of communication. If the petition is granted, service will be rendered t3 more than 200. The movement started by the residents resi-dents of the westside is being viewed by residents of other sections of the valley, and it is more than likely that extension of the free mail delivery will be further extended, providing the present petition receives favorable favor-able action. |
