Show Warm Drinking Water Here is a real argument for water ln front of the cows so they will never he compelled to drink too heavily of cold water at any one time. A French investigator, E. Garillet, reports that the water supplied in winter, when very cold, caused some cases of abortion abor-tion and stoppage of rumination. When the water was heated, no such troubles were encountered. The easiest way around such troubles would be water bowls or troughs in front of the cows but, lacking these, a tank heater should be considered to take the chill off the drinking water. Consider that a cow takes into her body about -100 pounds of water for each 100 pounds of milk produced and it is easy to understand that cold water In big doses could not be otherwise than harmful.' |
