Show Lions to Sponsor "Barnyard Golf" "Barnyard golf," more commonly known as horseshoe pitching, is to afford af-ford amusement and recreation for the citizens of Gunnison during their spare time, and when business houses have closed for the day's work. Through the activity, sponsored by the Gunnison Lions club, some real talent is to be developed, and as time progresses it is predicted that a team will be produced that can accept challenges chal-lenges from up-state, where the recreation rec-reation is becoming a real fad. Following the decision of the local Lions club to establish a horseshoe pitching court in this city, a committee commit-tee secured a privilege to use the vacant va-cant lot just south of the C. W. & M. building. A group of Gunnison Lion members donned overalls and soon the plot was cleaned of weeds and the ground leveled. The old board fence has been removed and three alleys are to be provided, thus allowing a three-set play at one time. Regulation shoes are to be used and rules governing gov-erning the game are to be adopted. The court will be open to the public, and no charges will be made. It is planned to organize teams and when advanced in the art contests are to be staged. The court wnll be in readiness the latter part of this week. At the luncheon - meeting held Thursday of last week, at which time definite action was taken to install the horseshoe pitching court, some excellent excel-lent music was furnished by Misses Beth Bardsley and Ida Edwards, as violinists, and Miss Gertrude Edwards as accompanist. |
