The old maxim that the bull is half the herd still holds true and the securing of a pure-hrod bull with a good pedigree is the first step in such a program. In selecting the dairy bull, especially for a grade herd, it may not be necessary that an exceptionally excep-tionally high price be paid, but it is even more Important that the record of production shown by his pedigree be high.
