Indications that the flocks were disappearing was discovered some time ago and with a view to apprehending the thief or thieves, the matter has been qept quiet. But the old foxy boy who has been doing the low-down work, is wise and his identity has not as yet been discovered. There are several though, throughout the valley, who would like very much to meet the "roost robber" and should this happen, hap-pen, either in daylight or at night, Mr. Thief had better make dust they are after him. Several complaints have been made against the operations of the turkey thief and one valley resident stated that in one night 90 half grown and health turkeys had been snagged from their roosting place and taken away. Another reports a loss of 50, one a loss of 60 and others have lost small numbers, and the total will run more than 300. A close watch has been kept on dogs, coyotes and other animals that would kill turkeys, but no blame can be attached to this source and. the conclusion is that some travelers or a well organized band of thieves have been working the game. The News does not encourage bloodshed and for this reason a tip is given those who are raiding the turkey roosts stay away and save a funeral expense. ! |
