Show City's Tax Levy Remains Same The Gunnison city tax levy for the ensuing year will remain unchanged and the rate will be the same as last year, 12 mills. The matter was adjusted ad-justed at the adjourned meeting of the members of the city council Monday Mon-day evening. Considerable time was taken up in threshing out the matter and after considerable debate it was decreed that there be no changes. The 12 mills is divided as follows for the several city departments: Contingent Expenses 5 Water Department 4 Streets and Sidewalks 2 Sepcial Improvement and Guarantee Guar-antee Fund 1 City Attorney C. M. Edwards advised ad-vised the members of the council that action had been started against Johnson & Gillispie, sidewalk builders build-ers in District No. 2. The firm, it was stated, had been served with the complaint and that action would be started just as soon as returns were made. Members of the council are determined, if possible, to force the contractors to make good the inferior sidewalks put in by them and to this end legal proceedings are to be forced to an issue. Much of the walk laid by this firm has gone to the bad and the taxpayers taxpay-ers are rebelling against meeting the special tax. It is believed that when the true conditions become known that the firm will make the proper adjustment, thus enabling the city to avoid taking the matter into court. |
