Show FS Workshop Will Focus On Planning ESCALANTE - The Forest Service is hoping for a good turnout at the workshop they're holding in Escalante on Thursday night. It's scheduled from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. in the Community Center, Escalante City Office, 90 North 100 West. "We know local folks love the Forest and use it for many things," says Randy Swick, Acting Dixie National Supervisor. "We hope they'll spend some time Thursday evening talking with us and each other about the current condition of local forest areas. This is an important first step in revising the Dixie National Forest Plan." This workshop is part of a series of workshops being held in southwest Utah to involve citizens cit-izens in the revision of the Land and Resource Management Plans (Forest Plans) for the Dixie and Fishlake National Forests. The Dixie and Fishlake are working together in revising the two plans in order to achieve appropriate consistency in management man-agement of landscapes across this region of Utah. Swick says the Dixie National Forest areas that will be addressed in the workshop are Antimony CreekPine Lake, Barney Top, Boulder Creek, Box Death Hollow, Canaan Mountain, Main CanyonUpper Valley, and North CreekPine Creek. These areas have been tentatively identified by Forest Service staff as areas having a distinct character in ecological terms, and distinct patterns of human use and appreciation. "We need to hear whether people agree with the areas we identified. Should they be distinct dis-tinct areas? Are the boundaries right? How do people use these areas?" Swick said. "We know we can learn a lot from local folks, and the workshop gives (See FS MEET on page 5A) FS Meeting From Front Page people a chance to learn from each other too." Swick acknowledges that some people may not have the time or inclination to attend meetings. "There are other ways to participate," he points out. "People can submit written comments, com-ments, send e-mail, or talk with Forest Service staff. Frank Fay and Tony Erba are the forest planners, and they're always happy to talk with folks." " Fay (Fishlake) can be reached .at 435.896.1097; Erba (Dixie) can reached at 435-865-3737.
