Show Mustangs Top Bobcats 70-63 At Bryce Valley By John Yardley The Bryce Valley Mustangs ran past Panguitch in the final quarter Saturday night to pick up their first league victory of the season 70-63 in Tropic. Meanwhile, in other games, Escalante lost a couple of games to Piute and Valley. Pan- .. guitch stopped Parowan at Parowan, and BV lost to Milford at Milford. At Bryce Valley, in a rough physical game which featured 65 fouls called and at least that many more that were not called, the Mustangs Mus-tangs played smart down the stretch and captured a close game. The inside in-side scoring of Bryant Shakespear and Mike Ahlstrom proved to be the big difference, especially on the offensive boards, for Coach Dan Haskell. Panguitch actually led 38-35 38-35 at the half, but BV came back to lead 49-46 after three. Saddled with fouls after 19 first half points, Bryant Shakespear did not come back until the final quarter, quar-ter, but he made that quarter as he and Ahlstrom beat Panguitch in the paint. Shakespear hit for 27 and Ahlstrom for 16. Derrick Clark hit a couple of key jumpers in the second sec-ond half to finish with 10. Thad Feltner, Travis Shakespear, Ryan Shakespear, Brett Palmer and Dar-ron Dar-ron Mathews all saw plenty of action ac-tion for BV, in the 70-63 win. For Panguitch, Bryan Richards carried the scoring load once again with 13 before fouling out, while -Coach Glen Partridge also got balanced bal-anced scoring from Matt Orton 9, Bryan Harris 11, and Ray Richards 9. Jared Frandsen, Lloyd Brinker-hoff, Brinker-hoff, Markay Englestead, Judd Partridge, Par-tridge, Wayne Simkins, and Elliot Brinkerhoff also saw action. Simkins was especially effective off the bench with three quick fourth quarter field goals. On Friday, Panguitch dropped the Rams 63-4. Panguitch out- rebounded re-bounded the Rams 53-27 to take the big edge in that category which pretty much summed up the final outcome. Thad Feltner really "lit" things up with 34 points in that game, while Mike Ahlstrom hit for 18. Esealante lost to two good teams, 74-47 to Piute and 79-43 to Valley. Jim Smith was disappointed disap-pointed in the loss to Valley, in that his team was not able to forth the kind of effort he desired. Against Piute, the Moquis played them close for a half as they kept the Thunderbirds out of their running run-ning game, but fell in the second half. Clay Stewart bombed in 17 points in the loss toPiute. Against Valley, Gary Liles was the only player to hit double figures with 10. Getting most of the playing time for Esealante are Clay Stewart, Jason Griffin, Gary Liles, Eric Hardison, Travis Cottam, Brian Stowe and Chad Lyman.
