Show Funding Helps Hunter Access A new law passed by the Utah State Legislature, at the request of organized sportsmen in the state, will pump badly-needed money into the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources Re-sources (DWR) public access pro- gram. Senate Bill 256, sponsored by Senator Alarik Myrin of Altamont, will help secure hunter access for Utah big game hunters. The concept con-cept was initially proposed by a new organization called Sportsmen for Fish, Wildlife and Habitat, headed by Don Peay of Salt Lake City. The new law requires a $10 applications ap-plications fee for limited entry big game hunts (including posted hunting hunt-ing unit hunts) and once-in-a-life-time hunts. The new money, earmarked for access programs, will help keep state lands open to all sportsmen and wildlife enthusiasts. The bill was crafted partly in response to increasing in-creasing demands on state agencies to generate money from state lands. The School Trust Lands Board is considering the issue as well. |
