Show Chamber Meet Notes Changes By Harriet Priska ESCALANTE Some 30 people met for the regular monthly meeting of the Escalante Chamber of Commerce where various service organizations participated in a brainstorming session netting priorities for goal setting. A desire to see a golf course developed in Escalante topped the list, with a Hole-In-The-Rock pageant going along with repair and upkeep of the road. Ranking third in importance is the third, the reprinting of the Escalante brochure, and fourth, the establishment of a museum. Final choice is the reprinting of the Escalante story. Members of the business community and other concerned indiviuals were challenged to donate at least $20 to help pay for the reprinting of the Escalante brochure. Treasurer Marlene Stowe will receive donations at the bank. Craig Sorenson, BLM Recreation Specialist provided statisticsf showing the great influx of people using this area. Last year, nine guide permits were issued and this year 25 have been issued. See Escalante Meet Page 3A Escalante Meeting From Page 1 Interagency Recreation Information Informa-tion Officer Susan Cottam said that inquiries about the area have more than doubled. She said that last year to this time inquiries totaled 425 and this year 923. All who reported said that the Escalante brochure is the best way to get people interested in stopping and spending more time and money in Escalante. Barbara Jaggers announced that North Star has purchased Escalante Aviation from Gerald Johnson. The offices will soon be moved out to the airport facility and Lance Jagger will house his aircraft in the hangar. North Star is leasing the land from the city and will be working with the city to have fuel available soon. They also plan to develop the airport air-port and hope to have fly-ins and other events. Lyman Construction has been housed at the airport for many years and will be relocating their offices. Secretary Geraldine Liston is going to miss her drive to work and all the seasonal beauty of the area and she wonders who will answer the radio now when friendly flyers pass by overhead and say "Hello, Geraldine!"
