Show Hatch DUP Opens Renovated Pioneer Museum- HATCH With a complete renovation, the Hatch Daughters of Utah Pioneers (DUP) Museum is now ready for daily service to the public. The entire project was under the direction of DUP treasurer Effel Riggs with help from DUP captain Velma Huntington, Jerry Law and his father, Gerald Law. The building which had deteriorated over the years received a new sloped roof to replace the previously flat one, its floor surfaces were refinished and new cupboards were built. The small windows were placed by large screened windows and large new letters making a sign "DUP Museum", were brightly painted. The museum houses treasures from three old towns no longer in existence; the old town of Hatch, and the towns of Hilldale and Asay. Funds for the renovation were raised with bake sales, rag sales and other local events. Light fixtures and drapes were donated from the old Hatch LDS Ward building which was demolished a year or so ago. New cement walks were con structed and benches installed for comfort. Signs have been commissioned for installation on Main Street, the main highway through town, to attract tourists to the facility. Volunteers will staff the facility daily from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. The museum has three rooms. The south room, or "Patriotic Room", has individual photos all protected in frames with glass. The DUP ladies have collected photos of all town mayors and postmasters from past years and pictures of all servicemen from Hatch families who " ' "- . fir - Daughters of Utah Pioneers volunteers, Ardls Evans, left) Maggie Barnhurst, Velma Huntington, Verda Sawyer, Ileva Lowder, Effel Riggs, Hope 4 Dalton and Mae Sawyer, arrive for an afternoon of quilting at newly refurbished DUP museum In Hatch, Center houses early artifacts. served the nation during the conflicts.
