Show Commission Considers Bid for Sheriff Car All courthouse employees appeared to discuss the courthouse telephone system, agreeing to pool lines and have a single .telephone number for the county during the regular Garfield County Commission meeting. Sam Allen discussed the bid on the new Bronco for the sheriff with some changes indicated from the original bid wliich Allen said resulted from changes on specifications requested by the sheriff. The commission took the matter under review. John Bentley, Deloy Dutton, Jerry Hawks, Robert Gardner and Doug Austin of the Forest Service and Ron Greenhalgh, the county's road supervisor, reviewed road maintenance agreements with the commissioners. The free-use agreement on the Art Tisdell property was discussed with liability for the road resting with him and the Forest Service assuming no responsibility. The Forest Service will continue to pay the county $1,300 for maintenance of the Main Canyon and Sweet Water roads. Commissioner George Middleton said that if the Forest Service will get the gravel crushed, the county will apply the gravel. County attorney Patrick Nolan is working on a right-of-way in Proctor Canyon with Clair Baldwin of the Forest Service. They also discussed the Mammoth Creek road and the Lower Mammoth Creek road which is county road. The county and the FS will work jointly to improye the road in September. Greenhalgh reported to the commission that the Sand Wash Bridge had been approved for the Disaster Relief Fund. Kent Wintch reported to the commission on the progress at the Bryce Canyon airport installing of jet fuel tanks. Robert Smith requested the commission to clean up debris from last year's flooding at his property. Commissioners requested Greenhalgh to make recommendations to them after assessing the problem with Smith. Earl Young, representing Bonanza Estates, requested the county's help in spreading gravel. Commissioners told Young to set a time with Greenhalgh for the work. Tom Henry and Steve Winters, representing Bryce Canyon National Park, presented the commissioners with packets distributed to tourists at the park. They also delivered to the commission the grazing phase-out recommendations at Capitol Reef National Park and presented the Phase I final report. A copy of a letter written May 11 by the Bryce Valley Senior Citizens to John Lupis, Dixie National Forest Supervisor, recommending alternative plans for the sawmills in the county was presented to the commission. Roy Urie told commissioners his Beaver Dam subdivision had been approved by the Planning Commission after which the commissioners approved and signed. |
