Show Escalante Students Compete In Rodeo Escalante High School senior Kim Lyman and juniors Burke Hafen and Claude Lyman, both Boulder, participated in the rodeo for cash prizes. The Jackpot Rodeo contestants compete for money where most high school competition is held for the purpose of qualifying competitors for state competition. Kim Lyman competed in both bareback and bull riding events, taking a first place in the bareback riding competition. Burke Hafen competed in saddle bronc and bull riding events, and Claude Lyman also competed In both. The upcoming rodeo in Moab April 3 and 4 begins actual high school qualifying rodeos throughout Utah. Rodeos are held almost every weekend at some location in the state to help high schoolers qualify for state competition. Students cannot begin to participate in rodeo competition until their freshman year. Jackpot rodro competition began for high school rodeo enthusiasts.
