Show Visitation Increases Visitation to the 12 National Park Service areas in Utah increased 2.76 percent last year as the cumulative total reached 5,296,051 for 1980. Visitation in 1979 was 5,153,696. Bryce Canyon National Park ranked third with 573,489, up 14,411 over 1979's 559,088. Of the eight park areas reporting increased popularity during 1980, Zion National Park showed the greatest gain. It posted a year-end total of 1 1,233,689, up 88,143 from the previous year. Glen Canyon National ncti eauuu nicci cuir tinued to be the most-visited of National Park areas in Utah as 1,646,968 visitors were counted in 1980. This figure represents a decline from the 1979 total of 1,733,282. Monument 113,816 (97,066) and Timpanogos Cave National Monument 107,041 (125,080). Overall, visitation to the 41 park areas of the Rocky Mountain Region showed an increase of 2.79 percent for the year. The region includes Utah, Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, North Dakota and South Dakota. The Region's 1980 visitation figure of 24,258,793 is up from the 1979 tally of 23,600,252. Nationally, the National Park Service's more than 330 areas attracted 300,324,082 visitors in 1980. |
