Other activities throughout the day included the dedication of the city park and the dedication of the new community swimming pool. Successful July 4 Celebration Held Independence Day began with the firing of 10 cannons early Tuesday Morning in Panguitch. First place float in the kiddie parade was won by the John Orton and Walley Henrie family, a train, with a different car for each of their children. Second place was given to the Chamber of Commerce Float and the Third Ward Primary Float The Third Ward Primary Float represented a decorated cake to celebrate the 100th year for Primary. Third Place Float went to Lady Lions with the theme of "Keep America Strong." Honorable mention went to the Red Canyon Indian Float and the Giants Little League float Heading the parade were the recently elected rodeo queen and her two attendants; Lisa Barney, Pat Mclnnely and LaRae Nay. At 11 : 30 the State Park was dedicated with the prayer being offered by Mrs. Hilda Gardner. Speakers included Dan Tebbs with a patriotic talk; Charles Allen main speaker concerning the park and Mayor Wallace G. Lee conducting Brown Sanford is the Park Superintendent for the new facility. Under his leadership, trees have been planted and cared for and grass planted. Other participating agencies with the park have been the Bureau of Utah State Department of Roads, Outdoor Bureau of Recreation, Lions Club, Utah Power and Light and the U.S. Forest Service. The Panguitch Community swimming Pool was also dedicated. This has been the completion of a long term goal." Mayor Wallace G. Lee stated during the pool dedication He said the city council and school board used progressive attitudes and fortitude in making this pool a reality. Lee stated that during a survey taken throughout Panguitch during the year 1975 the number one item listed for items needing to look into with 94 percent vote was facilities for youth. "The pool fills this need," he said The pool cost a total of $285,231 with fund from the Economic Development Administration funding $234,800 of this leaving the city a total of $30,431 to pay on the pool. The Lions Club and other donations will amount to $12,000, the mayor said, which leaves $18,431 to be raised. Panguitch City and Garfield County School Board are accepting contributions. The dedicatory prayer at the pool was offered by laurel L. Holman. The swimming pool staff includes the pool manager, Sheldon Jackson; Instructor Lifeguard. Farell DeLeeuw, Carrie Bezek. James Pollett, James Patterson and Machelle Holman. Lynn Crosby is a cashier. Hours for the pool are 1 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday, closed Sundays Wednesday nights the pool will only be open until 7:30 to allow special swimming activities. Pool prices include admission $1 for adults. .75 students and 50 for children. Punch cards are available at $10, $7.50 and $5.00. The Future Farmers of America presented the amateur rodeo followed by a display of fireworks. The closing event was the dance on the pavilion |
