During hi fHl quarter at SUSC, Iee worked from 'hree to six hours per week in Senator Orrin Hatch's ( It-Utah field office under the direction of Jeanint Holt, the senator's southern Utah area field director "My particular research project was to help determine the problems that rural communities and counties have with federal grants and programs," Lee explained "The goal was to find ways to solve these problems and ways to allow Senator Hatch to be of assistance to local government officials." The political internship program at SUSC provides experiences for two college students per quarter, one working for each of Utah's two senators. The SUSC program is coordinated by Rodney D. Decker, associate professor of political science. During his internship Lee met and worked with senators Hatch and Jake Gam, and U.S. Representative Dan Marriott. He attended meetings and worked with city officials in Panguitch, Cedar City and Kanab "I would call the experience very valuable." Lee says.
