Show After Half Century, Pair Gets Diplomas Age is not a determining factor ; one must have the desire and work hard to graduate from high school according to two of the oldest graduates from Panguitch High School Grace Owens and Thurza Proctor stepped across the commencement stage and received their diplomas with the 41 other graduating students and two other adult students May 26. Other adult graduates include Tammera E Veater and Avonell Tebbs. graduating with daughter. Kathy Grace, 68, should have graduated in 1929 but got married instead. She took her semi-finals and had all her credits but didn't get back to take the finals. At the time she was attending the Jordon High School. Her seminary teacher sent her the final test, she took it and graduated from Seminary but she didn't receive the final test for high school. During the years, she and her husband Kern Owens had five children . Richard Bruce, Panguitch; Mrs. Herman (Norma Kay) Houston, Cedar City; David L and Mrs Calvin (Susan I Allred both from Mesa; and Mrs. Benjamine (Caroline) Bruse. Salt Iike City. They have 23 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren Mrs. Owens has worked four years as school lunch manager and 15 years as a nurses aid. Mrs Proctor, 70, attended school to the eighth grade. Because she lived in Boulder and was unable to leave to get a higher education she attended eighth tirade twice. When she did get to ninth grade, then beging taught in Escalante. her parents became very ill and since she was the youngest she had to quit school and go home to take care of her parents, which she did until their death She married Reed King, cattleman from Moulder and they had five girls After he died she moved to Salt Lake City. She went to work for the Veterans Hospital where she met and married Lynn Kirkham. They had one boy Following his death she worked another seven years at the Veterans Hospital then transferred to California where she worked another 10 years. She retired at age 62 She started corresponding with William Proctor, her present husband and soon moved to Panguitch where they were married. She has two living daughters. Mrs. Thomas (Marion) Lyman, cedar City and Max LaRae King, California. She has six grandchildren. Poetry has been her great love since she was a small girl. She has written stories and histories. Mrs. Proctor took a poetry class last year. The instructor was a free-verse writer with a dislike for rhyming poetry When he read Mrs Proctor's rhyming poetry she said anyone who could write that beautiful in rhymes should continue to do so V .L B Intnk IfcB .
