Show Utah Ranks Seventh In Acres of Inland Water Utah ranks seventh among the states in acres of inland water, according to the 1976 edition of "Public Land Statistics". Alaska is first with 12,787,200 acres of inland water. Utah has 1,804,800 acres of inland water. The annual publication, which has just been issued by the Department of the Interior's Bureau of Land Management, provides the latest available information on acreage of lands by state and by federal ownership. It also lists other statistics, such as income from sales of public land resources and recreational use of federal lands. According to the new edition, more than 34 million acres or 66 percent of Utah is federally owned. Nationwide, 33 percent of the total land area is federally owned. Alaska ranks first with more than 352 million acres or 96 percent of the state being federally owned. The federal agency managing the most land is the BLM, which is responsible for managing more than 470 million acres nationally. The statistics book shows that 2.230.085 acres of land in Utah has been granted to railroads since 1850.
