Show Escalante Painter's Work On Canyonlands Display ESCALANTE The picturesque majesty of the southwestern states, with its high, snow-capped mountains, and its rugged, wind-carved canyons ablaze with natures brightest colors, has prompted Ernest Hugh Johnson to illustrate in oil some of his personal glimpses of the animals and birds that live in this adventure filled wonderland. He began in 1974 to capture these scenes on canvas. Mr. Johnson, originally from Mesa, Ariz., now is a resident of Escalante. He began to display a talent and interest in drawing at the early age of six, and has for the past 31 years worked as a commercial artist for television, theater, motion picture companies, ad agencies, and large corporations. Primarily a self-trained artist, he has spent brief periods of study at the Kachina School of Art in Phoenix and The Academy of Art in San Francisco. He has won many awards for his commercial work. The Carl Hayden Visitors Center at Canyonlands National Park, art exhibits are sponsored by the National Park Service and Bureau of Reclamation. The visitor center is open between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. |
