Show Fund Cutback To Reduce Highway Service In Area The Utah Department of Transportation, faced with severe budgetary problems in the wake of several years of rapid inflation without corresponding increases in revenue, is being forced to reduce services in some activities. District Three Engineer Howard II. Richardson said the cutback is required for the department to live within authorized and approved funds. He pointed out that of particular concern to motorists this time of year is the removal of ice and snow from state highways. Motorists of the central and southern portion of Utah are cautioned to be even more alert this coming season to road conditions. Officials of the department's Richfield office state that most severe storms will be handled in approximately the same manner as in previous years, but occasionally all of the state highways may not be completely cleared of ice and snow by the time people travel to or from work. They advise that workers will be wise to allow a few more minutes each morning for traveling to work during the coming winter season so that a timely safe trip may be completed in case reduced speeds are required because of temporary snow conditions. Officials state that travel under snow conditions is not necessarily unsafe, but requires more care and attention on the part of drivers . |
