Show Immunization Clinics Scheduled in Garfield Immunization clincis were discussed at the regular meeting of the Southwestern Utah District Board of Health meeting held at Kanab. It was reported to the Board that several physicians in Iron County feel that, as the Public Health immunization clinics are now providing an increasing share of the immunizations, it may be no longer feasible or practical for private physicians to continue to stock vaccine and to make this service available in their offices. The majority of Washington County physicians have already discontinued providing routine immunizations in their offices and refer their patients to Health Department Immunization Clinics. Dr. David Trafton, medical director of the District Health Department, replied that it was not the policy of the health department to replace the immunization programs of private physicians, but to ensure protection against communicable disease preventable by immunization, to the entire community, by providing this service primarily to those families who would not otherwise given their children this essential protection through their family physician. Dr. Trafton stressed, however, that tWe.Publuclleaith Immunization Clinics are open to all persons who choose to avail themselves of this program. Southwestern Utah District Health Department immunization clincis in Beaver County will be discontinued as of December 31, but clinics in Washington, Iron, Garfield and Kane Counties will be available according to the following revised schedule: GARFIELD COUNTY Panguitch First Tuesday of month, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Bryce Valley First Wednesday of month, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Escalante First Thursday of month, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. The Board of Health also . approved the incorporation of a home nursing program into the District Health Department and agreed to accept the legal responsibility for this program which will provide skilled nursing and other therapeutic services to patients in their homes under the medical direction of their family physicians. This service has been available for several years in Iron County, but will soon be available, also in Washington, Garfield and Kane Counties. |
