Cupid has once more proved his inlluence to lie more potent than that possessed by the unromantic mammas and prosaic papas and when the facts in this case come out they will create something of a sensation in social circles. Some three vears ago a young man who is the ison of a prominent Gentile andayOung ! lady w ;o is closely related to Church dignitaries met in this city. The young man was handsome and held a position under the govirnment. The young lady was beautiful and accomplished and is said to be well endowed with this woild's goods. Of course they fell in love with each other, and w hen th ir respective parents learned of this the unromantic mamma of the girl and the prosaic papa of the young man entered their emphatic protest against maUcrs going any farther and refused to lis:en to any talk about marriage. The young folks, however, continued to meet and exchange billet deaux. and as a last resort re-sort the hard-hearted mamma decided to take her daughter to California in the hopeof breaking off theattachnient. j Then Cupid got in his iine work. Win n mamma unfolded her plan to the girl, she at once arranged a meeting w ith her lover, told him of the scheme planned 10 blight their happiness, and tiie result was that the next day a license li-cense was obtained and the young couple cou-ple were quietly married. The whole transaction was strictly su!) rosa, and the next day mamma was delighted to lind that her daughter no longer protested against being torn from her lover, and so they left for the Golden Gate. Put when the bride reached her destination her desire to see her husband hus-band overcame her determination to keep hf-r actions secret, and she told mamma the whole story. The upshot must have been a great big row, for today to-day the young husband received a telegram tel-egram from his bride to send her money ami ticket, as she had dissolved partnership part-nership w ith mamma and wanted to be homeward bound as soon as possible. Thua doth cupid triumph. |
