The tramps who stole the valise, belonging be-longing lo Conductor Vincent from the R. G. YV. passenger train on Tuesday nigh!, were captured by Policemen W ilkins and White, those oliicers having hav-ing been notified of the theft jestenlay morning. Tin police first w ent to the depot, and after searching around among the weeds they found the valise ripped open and some clothing gone. The re t of the contents, consisting of tickets and papers, were left in the va lise. The officers then started out towards to-wards the river. After considerable, trouble, crawling through brush and w ilding creeks, they finally ran across three men lying asleep in the w illow s on the lake bottoms. Before awakening them the officers made an examination and found some of the clothing belonging to conductor Vincent. They then awoke tiie tramps, placed them under arrest, and brought them to town. On being searched at police headquarters, one of them was found to have a pair of the missing socks on his feet, and a pair of light gray pants, a towvl, and a handkerchief" hand-kerchief" with a beautiful monogram Worked on it. They give their names as Charles Phillips, Charles Fagin and John Monroe, and are now in jail pending pend-ing an examination. Oliicers Hatton and Elliot, recognize these men as the same three thatescaped from the officers j on Tuesday night. |
