Let's see; August, Septenber, October. Octo-ber. Scarcely two months and the annual an-nual territorial fair will be rpori us. The coming Utah fair, should excel all former ones in completeness and importance, im-portance, and to make it excel the former for-mer ones every citizen in the territory should be interested and lend a helping help-ing hand. Another feature to consider is that in IS!).? the World's Oiloniii.. Eiposiinio iii;es piatie at Chicago, nTflT. in that Utalt is to be represented. The success of our territorial fairs will as sure assure us greater excellence m our exhibit at the World's fair. The following communications will giye some idea of the interest that is being taken in the coming territorial fair. Salt Lake City, Utah,: August 10, 1S1. ; 7. V. Mtlny, E(7., Secretary Chamber af Cuik merer, City : Dkak Silt: The Territorial Fa:r of 1801 will be held between the 5th and 0th of October next. Great as was the success of the last annual fair, it is the confident expectation of the board of directors that this year's exhibition, aided as it will be by the most fruitful harvest of crops our territory has ever seen, will excel in" completeness and importance all its predccessois and constitute a titling forerunner of the Utah Exhibition Exhibi-tion at the World's Columbian Exposition Expo-sition in 18!io. X one feature of previous exhibitions exhibi-tions has contributed more to their success than the special premiums given by -citizens. The directors are grateful for the assistance thus rendered ren-dered in the past and feel a confidence that their hands will again be strengthened strength-ened if an appeal be made to the public pub-lic spirit of the people. With this object in view the directors direct-ors respectfully solicit from you a special spe-cial premium for whatever purpose you choose, to be competed for at the coming com-ing fair, or if you will kindly duplicate your generous offer of last year it will be creatly appreciated. In behalf of the board. Hehe it M. Wells, Secretary. Salt Lake City, Utah, August 11, 1801. ) Mr. lleber M. WelU. Secretary Deseret Agricultural and Manufacturing Society, Socie-ty, Salt Lake City, Utah: Dkau Sirt: Your communication of the 10th inst. is received. All things, in my opinion, are tending to make this a fruitful year for Utah territory. Foremost among the events militating in that direction is the approaching first great interstate irrigation congress of the western hemisphere, the results' of which will be so far-reaching and so productive of real substantial good to I the great, mowing west in general, and Utah in particular, as to be at first incomprehensible. in-comprehensible. The after scope and the enduring results re-sults to follow the birth of this embryonic embry-onic organization are practically with- j out limit. Embracing, as it will in its personnel, representative men from all of the great industrial, scientific and polytechnic organizations of the great west, no one at this time can foreshadow fore-shadow its magnitude, draw the line of limit on its field of action, nor signify the fijll measure of its importance. I need not indicate to you that, following fol-lowing as per arrangement in the wake of this great inter-state congress, the Territorial l'a'r of 1801 should be made especially attractive. Special features, culled from the harvest of this most bountiful year, bringing into bold relief re-lief the agricultural p ssibilities nay, accomplishments of this and other fertile valleys of our fair territory under our present imperfect sytem of irrigation, should be given great prominence prom-inence in our coming exposition. Your note is a sufficient earnest of the fact that vour directors are fully alive to the paramount importance of this annual fair. I need therefore onlv to assure you that I will use my best endeavor to enlist the hearty co-operation and assistance of the directors of the Chamber of Commerce in your efforts ef-forts to make this, our annual Territorial Territor-ial Fair, par excellence. Assuring you of my personal interest, I have the honor to be very truly yours, II. V. Meloy, Secretary Chamber of Commerce. |
