Show HE IS BACK. Ji. W. Drig-gs, Jr., Hearty to Meet His Accusers. The News of the Charges Carried to Him By An Interested Friend, and Mr. Drigrgrs Promptly Returns. Special to the Morning Dispatch. Salt Lake, August 14. B. W. Dnggs, Jr., of this city, concerning whom so many scandalous reports have been circulated charg;ng him with embezzlement em-bezzlement and other crimes returned to Salt Lake to-day ready and anxious to wait the charges. Immediately' on publication of tlie news, T. Kat'7"Id, a orofessorjif the IL'.yyjitwn. rVi-r guT!. ;vni a ri.-iro.TT- or Mr. cmji,, went I to Teton basin, Idaho, knowing Mr. Driggs was in an out of the way place and not likely to get the papers. Mr. Todd, sure enough, took the first news to Mr. Driggs and no time was lost by Air. Driggs in coming back. He boarded board-ed the first train leaving the locality, brin ing his family with him. Lateu: Mr. Driggs' statement to 3 our correspondent is as follows: "It having been asserted that I had left the territory of Utah permanently I have this to say. For the past three years I have spent a part of the summer sum-mer at my ranch in Teton basin, Idaho, and this year I had additional business, etc., that required my attention there which I expected to accomplish this month, and return to Salt Lake the latter part of August, but such a report having ing been published I left matters there and returned by the first stage. 1 have never intended to wrong any person. My property is at the disposal dis-posal of my creditors, and my life, for that matter, if it will satisfy them, though the former would pay two to one in a fair market. My investments are all in Salt Lake. 1 left Salt Lake with not enough money to pay my fare home. The assertion that I had got out of my creditors cred-itors from 00,000 to $75,000 is "basely false. I have borrowed not to exceed I'o.POO and tliat is tnosUv secured by j real estate th.it cost 40,000 before the boom was fully on and at the market price would now be worth over $50,000. besides stocks, bouds and other reserved property. I deny any and all assertions that any of the same has been acquired or money obtained by misrepresentation on my part. I hiii aware of some mistakes mis-takes having been made, but partly through agents and not by any intent on my part to deceive anyone." Mr. Driggs is much distressed over the turn affairs haye taken and stoutly maintains his innocence. |
