championships for the fourth year in succession Dunlap’s victim today was Giles of New York and the score was 8 and 7 He rolled over the handsome Manhattan club player just as easily as he did hi other final round opponents In 1931 1933 1931 and 1935 ‘ George’s earlier triumphs hese were scored on greens on which he was a marvel and when the sand was replaced by grass this year his friends feared for his putting touch But he mastered the grass just as completely Dunlap toured tha long and tricky No 5 course in 73 one over par on the morning round to This made go into lunch five-u- p the afternoon round a mere formality for there Isn’t an amateur living who can spot Dunlap a five-ho- le advantage and lick him 1 — Avery Brundage president of the American Olympic committee said tonight France had agreed to meet the United States In an exhibition baseball game to' be played in the Olympic games stadium in Berlin the night of August 12 Brundage said Dr Carl Diem of Berlin secretary of the organizing committee of the games informed him by letter of France’s willingness to participate “We have to find out only whether the capabilities of the French team will be sufficient In comparison with those of the American team” Dr Diem wrote the American official “The effect of the game may lla sube spoiled by too great periority of the Americans” Come Direct to ' golf By GEORGE CHADWICK Special to The Salt Lake Tribune Copyright 1936 NEW YORK April 4— Newcomers will share the spotlight with when the big league teams get under way in a little over a week Joe Di Maggio will be the cynosure of Yankee eyes So much has been written about the San Francisco Italian that tenants of the bleacher seats who used to adore Babe Ruth for so many years are waiting to see the natural batting style of the youthful prodigy and some of his “trolley-line- ” heaves from the outfield Down in Washington Bucky Harris is presenting young Buddy Lewis This youngster after one year in the Southern as sociation is taking over the third base job Lewis does not compare with Ossie Bluege as a fletderyBut when smacking out base hits is the thing Buddy makes up for his failings in the field Flock of Kids Connie Mack has such a raft of new ones that it is difficult to select any particular one for the laurel wreath With a few veterans as a nucleus around which to build a team Mack has his hands full trying to decide on his starting lineup Connie has come up with surprises before He may have a star under cover or he may be just sparring around hoping for the breaks Jim Oglesby who played with the Los Angeles club and was passed up by the Cubs looks like his best bet Mickey Cochrane may start Don Ross on third in place of Marvin Owen Here Is another youngster on the same style as Buddy Lewis What he lacks in fielding finesse is offset by a keen eye and ability to hit the ball on the nose Johnny Kroner was regarded as good enough to take the third base job from Bill Werber of the Red Sox That move was anticipated several times but it looks as if Speedy Bill will open the season at the familiar corner Kroner will be kept for emergency however Beau Bell who expected to take over the first base job for Rogers Hornsby’s St Louis Browns was shaken out of his confidence when Hornsby took over title on an old teammate Sunny Jim Bottom-le- y This means that Jack Burns will have to fight it out with two men for the regular assignment Jimmy Dykes has Bit McCulloch and Mike Kreeviqh as prospects He needs the pair to strengthen an otherwise poor outfield Dykes is none too sure of his standing unless one of them comes through or Mule Haas fools them all by playing the grade of ball he did with the A’s years ago O’Neil Well Set Steve O’Neil is pretty well set over in Cleveland He has a nicely bat anced club and a corking looking southpaw in A1 Milnar who won 21 games for New Orleans last year d The Milnar throws an overhand ball instead of using the short jerky sidearm motion employed by most This makes the batter send up high flies which are easily gathered in If Milnar comes through he will make Cleveland a mighty dangerous club this year old-time- rs
