Show Volume XXIII Issue XI The Ogden Valley news Page 5 July 1, 2016 Ogden Valley Balloon & Artist Snowbasin Resort Hosts the Utah Festival Imagine Planned for August 19 – 21 Symphony in Patriotic Performance July 1 a crisp, cool, roaring—a spectacular sight against the night picture-perfect morning amidst the dramatic backdrop of the Wasatch Mountains when, suddenly, 15 colorful hot air balloons begin inflating simultaneously. An amazing sight! The Ogden Valley Balloon and Artist Festival is scheduled for August 19, 20 and 21. The event will be held at Eden Park, the site of the first Valley Balloon Festival held in 1994. The festival offers affordable fun for the whole family. This year’s event will feature balloon launches, art booths, and continuous live entertainment featuring an eclectic selection of music, family games, and a diverse group of local food vendors. The popular Balloon Glow at dusk will take place Friday and Saturday evenings, August 19 and August 20. At approximately 8:45 p.m., hot air balloons will begin inflating simultaneously, their intense flames sky. The fundraiser breakfast for the Ogden Rescue Mission is back! Friday thru Sunday, beginning at 7:00 a.m., a traditional breakfast will be served at Eden Park, with all proceeds from the breakfast benefiting the Ogden Rescue Mission. Entrance to the festival is free. Nominal fees for family games and vendor food will be charged. There is a lot to see and do this year at the OVOM. We will have live entertainment from local Ogden Valley talents. Kicking off this season’s events on our brand new stage will be the Wild Flower Moon Band playing at Wolf Creek Summer Fest July 2 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Then Wild Flower Moon will be back for our opening night July 7 at dusk. Christian Sheller will be joining OVOM July 14 and many more to continue with the fun and festivities. Concert seating is available so bring your camping chairs and blankets and relax to the sounds of Ogden Valley. Local vendors will have food and drinks to purchase to settle in for the evening. The food is great from Rockin’ Wings and Mad Moose Café. If you’re looking for something to refresh yourself from the summer’s heat, have some shaved ice from KJP’s Fine Shaved Ice. The entertainment and fun continues throughout the season. On July 28, bring your furry friends for the “Best Dressed Pet” contest. Show off their costumes and win prizes! On August 4, a puppet show will be held for all the kids—young and old alike. There will be plenty of food to eat at OVOM or take home with you to enjoy later. Produce and food will be bountiful this year from Fower’s Farm with lots to buy. O-Town Kitchens will have jams and jellies to try and take home. Frisky Fish will have salmon, Perk’s Village Bakery and J&S Sweet Shop will have tasty treats to relish. If you’re looking to get a head start on shopping, OVOM will have local artisans selling handcrafted items. There will be furniture, crocheted items, jewelry, soaps and lotions, canvased wrapped paints, wood barn picture frames and much, much more; there will be something for everyone. More information from our local vendors will follow. Come join the fun every Thursday evening beginning at 5:30 and lasting ‘till dusk, July 7 thru September 8. The Ogden Valley Open Market is held at 2405 N. Highway 158, in Eden, in the lot next to the Century 21 building. Just head south from the intersection at Valley Market and Maverick gas station. Applications can be downloaded electronically from <www. ogdenvalleyopenmarket.com> Eccles Community Art Center Offers Western-themed Exhibit In conjunction David Dibble, Shawn Didyoung, Kelly D. with Ogden Pioneer Days, The Eccles Community Art Center’s Main Gallery will exhibit works from Western-themed artists in an exhibit called “The Ogden Pioneer Days—Traces of the West.” This invitational exhibit will open Friday, July 1 and continue through Friday, July 30, 2016. A reception for artists and the public will be held July 1 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Awards will be posted at the reception. “The Ogden Pioneer Days—Traces of the West” is comprised of recent works with a Western theme by artist throughout the United States. Categories include Drawing, Painting, Sculpture, Photography, and Highend Western Gear. Local artists, as well as those from Wyoming, Arizona, Montana and Oklahoma, are participating. Artists who have accepted the invitation to exhibit include Dianne Adams, Doug Adams, Doug Braithwaite, Keith A. Dagley, Christy Daniels, Donovan, Barbara Summers Edwards, Glen Edwards, Jeff Edwards, Mike Gardner, Mark Goodson, Tim Harmon, Cordell Hatch (Hatch Tack), David W. Jackson, Steve Johnson, HR “Heather” Kaiser, Lori Nicholas, Elizabeth Robbins, John Steele, Don Weller, Daren Wilding, Jeff Wolf, Kaye York, and more. Ogden Pioneer Days events will be happening at the Utah Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum and at Ogden’s Union Station. On July 8, 2016 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. the Utah Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum will hold their Annual Utah Cowboy Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony. Ogden’s Union Station will be exhibiting westernthemed paintings by local artists during July. The Eccles Community Art Center’s regular gallery hours are Monday thru Friday 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Saturday 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The center is closed Sundays and major holidays, including July 4 (Independence Day) and July 24 (Pioneer Day). Conductor Jerry Steichen will lead the orchestra in a patriotic celebration featuring Broadway star Doug LaBreque performing all your red, white, and blue favorites at 8:00 p.m. Friday, July 1 at beautiful Snowbasin Resort. All proceeds will benefit the Ogden Symphony Ballet Association. The Utah Symphony will perform in front of a beautiful backdrop—Ogden Valley and Earl’s Lodge. The venue will open at 5:00 p.m. Arrive early for best seating options. The performance length will be approximately two hours with a 20-minute intermission. Earl’s Lodge will have food and drinks available starting at 5:30 p.m. The special Symphony menu includes slowroasted New York strip loin, grilled salmon filet, roasted chicken, sliced meats and cheese tray, and more. Riverton Music’s Petting Zoo will be on site prior to the performance to encourage children to touch, play, and explore many different musical instruments. Introduce your children to the wonderful world of music by exploring the musical petting zoo and experiencing the Utah Symphony performance. This exciting performance in a picturesque setting will benefit a local non-profit, the Ogden Symphony Ballet Association (OSBA). The OSBA provides symphony and ballet tickets to local community programs and schools, providing the opportunity for local residents and students who couldn’t otherwise e n j o y the rich cultural experience of a symphony or ballet performance. Tickets for the Utah Symphony at Snowbasin Resort are $20 for general admission lawn seating, $5 for youth 11 and under, and $40 for preferred VIP seating (chairs provided) if purchased in advance. Ticket prices will increase the day of the performance. VIP seating includes passed hors d’ourves for 15 minutes before the performance as well as seating up front, closest to the stage. Tickets can be purchased online at snowbasin.com, in person at the OSBA ticket office Monday thru Friday, or at Snowbasin Resort on Saturdays and Sundays.
